I am a common person in China. The year is 222 BC. The emperor Shi Huangdi recently started the incredible construction project. He has ordered a Great Wall to be built across our northern border to protect against invaders. The people of China appreciate the extra protection but wonder if it’s worthwhile. The project comes at great cost to the people. People all around me are being taken from their homes to work on the wall. Those who go never return. So many people die from overexertion, starvation, and dehydration. Many who die are just buried in the wall. If they complain they are beaten or killed. These cruel actions are making tensions rise and the people hate the government. All around people despise the emperor. Tensions are rising and I feel that a revolution is imminent.
